Road Closure - Beckford Road, starting 5th August

It has been confirmed that Gloucestershire Highways will be visiting the area 2 more times next week, however, the full clarity we have been given now is the following:

  • The works for Beckford Road/Cambridge Square Alderton is the section that has been missed.  This is the one that needs to be completed   This is for Surface Dressing only.  The Lock Chip is the next part of the process, and this usually takes place at least 48 Hours after the Surface Dressing.  The Surface Dressing needs to settle and integrate itself into the binder and the soft road surface below.  Approximately 24-48 hours later, the sweeper comes through to remove excess chippings.  Then the road needs to be closed again and lock chip bitumen is applied over the top of the surface dressing.   The works here should only take an hour maximum – 40min laying and 20 min to oxidise before vehicles can go on it.)  Hopefully, this gives you an insight on the process.

  • Lockchip is only being applied from the new housing development right round to Cambridge Square.  See map below.

We have been advised that Willow Bank will not be closed, it will just be the top sections of Beckford Road to Cambridge Square.
